The figure rests on a slender metal frame. A resting Pan leans backwards on a rock amidst grapes and vines.The flute named after him can be seen at his right side. He is the horned god of the woods, half goat, half man - lustful, greedy and frivolous. The Saint Louis Art Museum has this figure’s original, by the Italian Renaissance sculptor Francesco da Sangallo, and Berlin-based Oliver Laric, who works at the intersection of art and technology, replicates the work in 3D. The version in the evn collection is made of polyurethane and aluminum. The parts seem assembled like building blocks, made of beige, smooth plastic and flashing metallisé. Sangallo already assembled his figure from a recycled piece of marble. While the historical work nevertheless remains an original and unique piece, Laric makes a point of ensuring that his scan material is freely available. He publishes the image data he aggregates for 3D printing as open source on the Internet.
